Belmont Abby and the law

Belmont Abbey College is under attacked for being Catholic… For teaching and practicing what she teaches she is being punished.  The teachings of the Catholic faith are clear and Belmont is following them, yet she is being attacked. So what is it the Belmont Abbey is doing that is bringing on this attack? What is so anti-humanity that it would cause a person to bring a lawsuit? What teaching of the Catholic Church could cause such upheaval?

The Catholic Church oppose contraceptives, abortions and other procedures that prohibit the possibility of life. Belmont Abbey discovered that there health care covered these procedures and medications and made corrections to there medical policy, to make sure they are keeping with in the teachings of the faith. To me it sounds fair, I would not expect a Catholic institution to ever place herself at odds with the teachings of the faith. On the same token I would not expect a Muslim or Jewish institution to stray from there faith. If, for example, a Jewish university or college was kosher, I would not expect there cafeteria to serve non-kosher foods, out of respect for there faith.

But for some unknown reason it seems fair game when it’s the Catholic Church, our traditions and faith are always open session. We are under attack for having a faith tradition that spans over 2000 years, we are under attack for following the teachings of our faith, and for not following them. To be Catholic is to be an open target.

Belmont Abbey, to their credit, has stated they would rather close the college than to bend the teachings of the Catholic Church. And to that I say Amen! We need more catholic Institutions to do the same, to stand up for the faith. The government has no right to impose there laws on our Church, they have no right to expect Belmont Abbey to commit a sin by allowing abortions or other forms of preventing live as part of their health care.

It never fails to amaze me what people will try to do to the Church, for anyone who things that religious persecution is not part of the American fabric look again, it is happening daily in America, it’s just labeled as equality and fairness and tolerance…

About Paul Sposite

Paul Sposite - Life Coach I began my career as an instructor. As an instructor there are two basic requirements. You have to know yourself, so you know where you’re drawing your inspiration from. And you have to actively listen to the others, and then respond to the subtext of what they are saying. In learning about myself I started to focus a lot on my students, how they learned, what questions they were asking and how I could best modify my methods to best serve them. I believe that if you use your real life problems/issues as insights to the issues you need to heal, you’ll grow. From my experience in the classroom, creating curriculum and material to support my training, I developed an interest in how people process information. This interest turned into my interest in Life Coaching.
